The supply of clean water is an essential service. Yet the industry is challenged. Many people in the industry are nearing retirement age. Will there be enough folks to replace them? The answer may be No … unless things are done to attract new people.
We aim to help. And we are using a new approach. Rather than emphasizing things like salary levels or technical challenges or community health … although we recognize these are all important … we want to explore something different … having fun! Yes, the water industry, and by that term we include wastewater and irrigation and flood control, can be a place where amusing things happen.
Do you have stories you can share? Stories about things that happened recently, or things that happened long ago. The kind of stories that you tell family and friends at the bar or around the kitchen table. If you do, please send them to us. We’ll be pleased to add to our collection and show that the water industry is not only very important: it’s also an enjoyable place to build a career. Share your stories and you will play a part in strengthening the water industry for a generation to come. For an example, read the story below; it’s one I have retold several times over!
